Soup's On!
I made this yummy Taco Soup last night for dinner. I got the recipe from a friend - and it's low/no fat and mighty tasty! It was really easy, too. The boys wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole, but Brian and I liked it - I had plenty of leftovers, too!
Jared stayed home from school yesterday with strep. :( Poor kid had a 103 fever and a sore throat on Monday, so we headed up to the new urgent care. In and out in 25 minutes with a script for Amoxicillin. He still was running 102 Tuesday morning, so he stayed home. Luckily I was already planning to work at home so I had all of my stuff. He had a pretty good day - did a few puzzles, watched cartoons, played with his Star Wars guys.
The kids are excited for Halloween next week. I'm not sure that Owen gets the whole Trick-or-Treat concept, but he's excited to wear his black Power Ranger costume. Jared's Yoda is adorable. They have parties at school - Owen has TWO! And then they're going to a party with Aunt Sarah on Wednesday afternoon. We'll do something quick and easy for dinner, that night.
It's definitely fall here - mid-50's and gloomy. Jared had a field trip to the park today. He dressed warmly (I made him take a hat & gloves). They also had to bring a white t-shirt to paint with leaves. I bet that'll turn out cute!
Well, time to go change the laundry - it's Wednesday which is "sheets day" but I had to completely strip our bed because Owen peed in it. Grrrr.

Fire Drill Monday
Owen woke up bouncing out of his skin this morning. "Today the fire truck comes!" Well, and the fire fighter, too. He insisted on wearing a fire truck t-shirt today and his red crocs. He didn't ask if he could bring a helmet again so I didn't mention it.
I think he'll get to see the fire truck twice - since he stays for morning and afternoon? Maybe he'll be napping for the afternoon one.
Jared launched his rocket yesterday with Cub Scouts. It was a beautiful day for rocket launching, though windy for sure. A few went onto the school roof and one went all the way OVER the school (though, that was one that broke into two pieces, so the parachute and nose went that far). The boys had fun and I got some fun pictures.
Soccer ends this week. Hopefully it isn't too bitterly cold on Saturday morning for our 9 AM game. Egads! My life becomes so much more sane after this twice a week soccer ends. We'll be down to just Cub Scouts 3 Tuesdays a month and swim lessons one evening.
Speaking of Cub Scouts - I'm in charge of planning November. The theme is "Indian Nations." I'm thinking a trip to the Museum of Natural History in Ann Arbor for the Go-See-It and building our totem pole for craft/activity. Oh, and we'll make drums one week, too. Fun times!

Tuesday Chooseday
Tuesdays are supposed to be relatively relaxing. But HCSC threw a wrench in my carefully planned week by adding an extra practice for Owen's Lil Strikers. Grr. So I need to take him to soccer at 5:30 and get Jared to the Cub Scouts Pumpkin Carving by 7. Oh, and feed everyone. Sounds like a sandwich night!
I started swimming across the street at the community ed pool a few mornings a week. It's a nice change from the treadmill. I love that it's right across the street - I can drive there in like 2 minutes. Everyone told me how cold that pool always is, but I've found that it's reasonable warm. Ask me again in February!
I think my plan now is to swim 2-3 mornings (it's hard to schedule because Wednesdays the cross country team works out in the pool - very crowded; and Thursdays I can't leave the house until 6:00 on the nose because Brian's on-call). So if I swim say Monday, Tuesday, and Fridays, then I can do my treadmill workout on Wednesdays and Thursdays and the weekend. I seem to slack off on the weekends - rarely do I actually get in the treadmill and weights/Pilates. I'm lucky to do one each day.
Owen had his turn to bring snack yesterday. He was assigned afternoon snack, so he brought a big box of rice krispie treats (no nuts allowed in his class). Being the snack kid also means that he got to do the weather at circle time and do a show-and-tell. They requested no toys for show-and-tell - yikes! We remembered Sunday night, so he had to make due with a Hamburg fire helmet - I'm not sure if it was Brian's or not - anyone? Anyways, he loved taking it with him to school.
I need to get a move on and check on my scripts - Happy Tuesday!

Herons
I went outside to get the mail and FIVE of these herons were strolling across my driveway! They split up and started to walk away when I got out my phone (and zoomed the camera) but how cool!
