March...does this mean spring is coming soon?
I am loving the warm up in temps. Today I actually had the front door open for a bit - and didn't freeze!
Jared is home sick today, obviously from the pic below. He was up half the night last night with a horrific sounding cough! He coughed so hard at one point that he ended up puking. So he spent a good portion of the time in a little bed he'd made up on the bathroom floor.
He stayed home from school today and had a lovely day watching TV, coloring, and doing puzzles. He appeared to feel fine...until that cough would kick in and he'd turn beet red. Poor kid.
Owen was NOT impressed at having to go to school today knowing that Jared was staying home. He tried to insist on wearing his PJ's to school, but I was able to convince him that his jeans would be a better choice. He ended up having a great time playing at school, on recess, and outside with his friends. He's enjoying the warm weather, too.

Branching Out
The kids are really starting to eat better - trying new things, eating some vegetables, and not begging for treats (OK, so they beg, but they also understand that a treat will come if they eat something decent first).
They both have learned about how important "something healthy" is as a part of every meal. Owen often asks for a cheese, applesauce, or "healthy snack" when he gets home.
But tonight...I made a new chicken enchilada casserole. It had diced chicken, tomatoes, onions, and olives. Each of which usually results in turned up noses on any given night. This time, they both ate a reasonably large portion of both the enchilada and the rice!
I should add that they covered it in sour cream...oh well, baby steps.

Breast Cancer 3-Day - Consider a Donation

I have taken on an incredible challenge. This August, I’ll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me.
It’s for an event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I plan on raising $2,500 to help bring us closer to that goal.

Everyone knows someone who has been touched by breast cancer – a mother, a sister, a friend. My grandmother battled breast cancer years ago and beat it. Women are still fighting – but through the donations from friends like you, together we can end this.
Without a cure, one in eight women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer. That’s why I’m walking in the 3-Day. Because everyone deserves a lifetime.
