What a Week!
Whew! It's been a whirlwind week at our house!
I was in the office 4 days this week, which is only one extra but feels like a lot! Normally I'm working at home on Monday and Thursday. I was sick yesterday with a headache ;) so I stayed home and relaxed.
We signed Jared up for Cub Scouts. He and I went to the first meeting on Tuesday and he was hooked! The kid is obsessed with the badges and secret handshake and all that. Wow! One of the other moms that I know signed on to be the den mother and I said that I'd help her. Popcorn anyone? LOL
Wednesday evening was Jared's first swim lesson of the new session. For some reason, he was hysterical at the thought of swim lessons! Huh? This kid LOVES swimming! We ended up in the same class as a little boy from his 1st grade class, so he was all smiles after that, little stinker! He had a ball and it was really hot on Wednesday, so Owen and I were both jealous.
I called in sick yesterday but managed to drag myself to the TWO HOUR PTO meeting at Owen's school. Wow do these women fundraise!!! Golf outing, pizza kits, ice cream cakes, Box Tops, Campbell's labels, Scholastic, auction, teacher scoop at the ice cream place, and on and on and on!!! Wow! The plan is new playground equipment and a flag pole for the front of the church/school.
Owen started soccer last night - Little Strikers. Hee hee. I have pictures that I'll post this weekend. His practice ran 5:30 - 6:30 and he looked so dang CUTE in his soccer shorts, shin guards, and cleats!!! I don't understand why the socks are so big - they come all the way up his legs and I have to fold them down like 4 times. He did GREAT and was really enjoying it. Jared's practice was right afterwards and they had WAZA clinic. He learned a bunch of drills to work on during the week. I'm just not sure that soccer is "it" for Jared - maybe baseball? Scouts interested him quite a bit, but I really think that he needs to RUN.
I've got a cold now so my nose is all congested and my throat is sore. :( I think I'll go find a cup of tea. I'll get back to posting more regularly now!!!

Happy 40th Dave!
We celebrated Dave's 40th this weekend! As always, good food, fun times, big bonfire (what else from the fire fighters?!) - great party!

A Big Pile
Owen wasn't so keen on bedtime, so he calls me back into his room and I find THIS! As he calls it "a big pile". We compromised by keeping only the fire fighter Mickey in with him and the rest were put back at the end of the bed or onto the floor.

Friday Yet?
This week is dragging!
Owen is still not into school at ALL! He was telling me today how much he hates school and it's boring and he doesn't want to go. :( Poor kid. He looked so pitiful today at drop-off that I couldn't stand how cute he was! The kid really is cute. :) Not that I'm biased.
Today is school picture day for Jared. He was insistent that his shirt have a collar, which made me happy. I had a hard time choosing a color and we ended up with navy. It's hard to know if a lighter blue will clash with the background that they use, which I guess is why people choose a background! I only ordered a small package - last year's smile was hideous! Sort of tight-lipped and very fake. I plan to take them in November for portraits and Christmas card photos.
Tonight Jared has soccer practice - I'm so glad that he has the same coach as the last two years. He's much more comfortable with it - he's very resistant to change! Who isn't? But knowing that he was moving to B-league was change enough - new coach would have likely put him over the edge. He's mad that he had to get a new number this year! He's the 9 - and their uniforms are red and black - very cute. I need to get a good picture of him on Saturday. Everything that I took last week was too far away. Maybe I'll just take some at home so that I don't have to lug the camera - but I should take video this week....
The kids and I made a Target run last night after dinner. Brian had promised Jared a Game Boy game if he got onto the bus without crying for three days. So he chose the Shrek 3 game but also some Star Wars guys. I was in a rush and didn't put back one or the other, so he got one Star Wars guy last night, and he'll get the other stuff when he gets more stars - he earns stars for doing his chores, being nice to his brother, etc. I think we'll go 5 stars for the Star Wars guy and another 10 for the game.
He and I also chose a new puzzle. I got a cute cartoon-y one this time - funny. He chose Pirates of the Caribbean (surprise!).
I need to spend some serious time cleaning out this house this weekend - it's just too full of STUFF that we don't need. I'm getting a big box for Salvation Army and a big bag for trash and just going room by room!

Owen's First Day of Preschool
Owen had a great first day at Light of the World. When I left him in his classroom, he was listening to a story with two little buddies. As I peeked back in after dropping his form at the office, I noticed that a teacher was walking him around because he was upset. :(
Well, I spoke to his teacher and he was fine off and on through the morning and by afternoon wasn't upset at all. They quickly learned that questions like "do you want to do XYZ" will promptly be met with a "NO" but statements like "let's do XYZ" are happily followed.
He finished most of his lunch, though the after-school teacher said that he was nibbling on it a bit while playing outside. He adores the playground and especially the new frog pond. He brought home 3 very nice looking cherry tomatoes from the garden, also. I really love this school.
So, my new dilemma is what to do about overlapping fundraisers. What do I do with my Box Tops, Campbell's labels, etc? Split them up? One for each school? What about Scholastic orders? I wish that I could just make a donation and be DONE! I'm leaning toward giving the labels and box tops to Country - I'm paying LOTW a lot of money already, and I know that the public school needs the money. Then there's pizza kids, wrapping paper, candy bars.... ARGH!
